A new family walk

Since Koopa got introduced to the beach on his first walk we’ve been loving taking him there! It’s becoming a real special time for us all.

We jumped in the car one day last week and drove down the road to a beach near to where we used to live.

It was the end of the day, it was cooling down outside and the beach was lovely.  Mark had Freddie in the wrap and off we went!

Arthur and Koopa are so cute, they were off in their own little world exploring together.

How cute is this picture of Arthur’s footprints and Koopa’s paw prints in the sand!

Along the way Arthur stopped to throw some stones into the Ocean, definitely one of his favourite things to do!

We walked until we found some trees that had fallen down.

We had so much fun playing around, climbing running and hiding in them.

Arthur thought it was great and Koopa did too! It was lots of fun watching the two of them chasing each other around, enjoying each other’s company.

We were having such a lovely time that we hadn’t realised it was way past Arthur’s dinner time and we had to head home.

Of course when a small boy is having so much fun, just going home is not always as easy as all that!!
Our little master of distractions found anything to take as long as possible to get home!!  He threw stones and seaweed into the sea, splashed around and generally just slowed right down to do anything but go home.

The thing is, he looks so cute while he’s doing it, it’s pretty hard to get angry!

In the end the only thing for it was a mama piggy back!!

It became one of those magic moments.  Those unplanned, simple yet oh so beautiful moments.  The ones where we sit back and think yep, that’s why we live here!!  This is definitely a special place for us now and a lovely place to go for a family walk.

Coming out of the newborn bubble

Yesterday we said goodbye to mum and dad as they head back to the UK (via a couple day stop off at Dubai!) after a really lovely two weeks.

Actually, it always has to be more of a ‘see you later’ to help me be less of a mess that I always am every time they leave!!

This means that it’s time for real life as a family of 4 to start.  We are officially coming out of the newborn bubble!!

Coming out of the newborn bubble
Mark has been back at work for three weeks now but we’ve only had 4 days of that where I was at home by myself with the boys, and it was teachers week so no kids in.  This meant there was nowhere near the same amount of after school commitments there usually are for Mark!!  I also knew that soon Mum and Dad were arriving!

So, as of today, I’m by myself during the day with Arthur and Freddie while Mark is at work!
Honestly, I’m nervous. I hope that I can keep them both happy!  I hope that I find a way to get us out the house on a regular basis!   I hope that we can find a good routine – in a perfect world that would be one that contains a time while they are both napping – yes I feel you laughing at me but a Mama can dream right!!

We are very lucky that, so far at least, Arthur has been amazing with Freddie and has shown no signs of jealousy.  That should help us, I really hope that this doesn’t change!!

I also really hope that Arthur soon figures out that it’s better if he doesn’t wake Freddie up while he’s sleeping!!  That it means I can give him my 100% attention.

Something else that is going to hugely help us is that we have hired a cleaner.  I’m aware that this makes us sound ridiculously over-privileged, and I guess you’d be right!   However, it’s very affordable here in Seychelles to have a cleaner and I am so happy we have her.   We are one of the last people we know not to have a cleaner!  She was recommended to us by a friend and she’s fantastic.  She’s really nice, reliable, trustworthy and fantastic at her job.  She comes three afternoons a week and it not only frees up my time to be with Arthur and Freddie, she does a way better job than we ever did and the house looks amazing!!

So wish me luck as our adventure truly begins!!  Any tips to keep two small kids happy would be very much appreciated!!!

25 months old

Arthur has just turned 25 months old.

25 months old

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since his second birthday, that’s absolutely flown by!!

His speech is continuing to improve with what feels like new words appearing every day!!!
A new word that has definitely hugely influenced how he communicates with us is “show” as in ‘show you’.  He grabs us by the hand and says “show show”

Our nap battles have been continuing.  I can’t bring myself to give up trying.  He definitely still needs sleep and will still go to sleep often enough for me to still have some hope!!!  The days he doesn’t nap he often crashes out somewhere late on in the day, usually the car!

Tantrums continue, I do feel that as Arthur can comminicate better they are easier to resolve.  The days where Arthur doesn’t nap are always worse because he’s tired and grumpy!

This month Arthur has been absolutely loving painting.  It’s been pretty much every day this month!  We’ve had his lovely little easel outside so mess has (mostly) been contained to out there!

We’ve also seen Arthur really enjoying sorting out colours.  I’ve been trying to help him learn his colours with this.

We’ve been making towers

Arthur has also enjoyed taking lids on and off the paintpots and putting them back on the right colour!

Potty training is going well, we’ve still not gone out the house without nappies aside from the odd trip home in the car from the beach!   We decided with such big changes coming soon we wouldn’t push our luck!

This month, unbeknownst to Arthur, has included some lasts for us!
The one that got me the most was halfway through Mark’s last day of school, I realised that this would be the last day just me and Arthur at home.   I got really sad when I realised this, and I’m ok to admit that I’m all teary writing this now too!  Of course, I’m beyond super excited about our little boy bump arriving in our family, but I still worry all the time about how he (okay, I mean we) will cope with our world turning upside down again!!

Since Mark finished work for summer we’ve been having an amazing time, we’ve had loads of time at the beach, at the pool, in the garden and just generally enjoying our time together!!

With one week until we go to Mahe, and just over 2 weeks until little boy bump arrives the next update for Arthur will definitely be an interesting one….it will definitely have been a busy month for him, and us all!
