Fond Ferdinand, Praslin {The Ordinary Moments} #29
A new walk!
We’ve lived on Praslin for over 2 years now and one of our favourite things to do is to go walking in the Vallee de Mai.
Around 6 months ago a new walk opened up.
I don’t know how this happened for a place so small, but we didn’t hear about it until around a month ago! Anyway, as it does, life kept us busy and we only just managed to get round to going last weekend!!
We took a drive round the coast road (always a pretty drive!) round to Fond Ferdinand, we new nothing about the walk apart from it was there!!
The walk closed at 3 on a Sunday we got there at 2:30.
The man at the front initially tried to turn us away saying that we would need a guide and they finish at 3, and other such things!!
Once we told him we were residents and showed him our ID cards he saw that Arthur was born here!!!
That’s often a game changer
When people learn that Arthur was born in the Seychelles they tend to warm up to us if they haven’t already!
Anyway, we are told we can go in, and take as long as we want. He tells us to check out the eel that’s in the river by the green bamboo.
We walk on and wonder if the eel is some kind of euphemism. However, low and behold, we get to the green bamboo and look into the river and there he is!! An eel just hanging out! Arthur liked him very much!
The walk we did started off very flat and easy, it was very pretty and wonderful for kids to run around in. There are not too many areas like this for kids so we definitely loved that!!
We ended up taking a bit of a detour and going up, and up, and up and up!! It was pretty tough, but they were proper steps, so manageable with Arthur strapped onto Mark!
The view at the top was a wonderful reward for our climb!! We looked behind us and saw that we could actually go up further but we decided to leave that for another day, being that we hadn’t really been prepared for the big hike we had just done!!
The walk back down was lovely too! Β Lots of shade which was nice since we were very hot after that big climb!!
We were then back by the entrance and homeward bound.
We are really excited to have found this place because it’s huge, there’s loads more for us to explore which of course is fun!! We will definitely be going back to Fond Ferdinand very soon!!
Looks like a great place for a walk and views but how cool for kids to catch sight of an eel in its natural habitat.

It looks like a stunning place to walk and I love the selfie of the three of you and the one of Arthur and his Daddy. Looks like you will have some more fun family times exploring here. x
