As you may have noticed there was a distinct lack of a fitness in post in April!

There was a few reasons behind this.  One was because I’ve been struggling to keep up with the blog.
The main reason though, is that there wasn’t a whole lot going on.  I went for 1 run, yep just 1!  I didn’t want to admit that I’ve fallen out of love with running, but I really have.

It’s now the end of May and I haven’t run once this month.  I don’t know what has happened, I’m not sure why I have stopped enjoying running, but whatever the reason, I’ve decided not to force myself to go.  I don’t want to force myself into exercise, I don’t see that it’s a positive thing to do.

So there we go, I’ve admitted my current dislike of running!  It wasn’t as hard as I thought after all!

On a more positive note, I’ve massively stepped up my yoga.  I am practicing pretty much every day now, and often twice a day.  I find that I get really grumpy if I don’t manage to squeeze in some yoga at some point in the day!

I am still going to my yoga class once a week which I really enjoy.  We have a new instructor now and he pushes us really hard which is great!!!

So there we have it, my fitness in May!  I like that I’ve taken the pressure off myself.  I am sure that at some point I will run again, but right now I want to focus on enjoying the exercise that I do!

With Arthur just starting nursery in the mornings I will be aiming to get out and about more with Freddie which will include lots of walks.  Freddie is getting pretty big now so having him in the Moby wrap will certainly be good exercise!

My fitness in March

I’m excited to be doing these monthly fitness update posts.  A roundup of my fitness journey.  This is where I will be totally accountable for any laziness and where I can be proud of my successes!!

I’m not one for worrying about what the scales say, I care much more about how my clothes fit.  I’m proud to say that I am back into my pre pregnancy clothes, thanks to a mixture of breastfeeding, exercise and of course I can’t rule out genetics too (thanks mum and dad!!).   Despite being happy with my size I still have things I want to work on.  I want to tone up more and I want to improve my over all fitness levels.

My fitness in March

After a pretty poor, OK very poor month in February, I am back on track! I set myself realistic targets that kept me motivated!

My fitness diary for March.

1st March: Yoga class
3rd March: Yoga at home
3rd March: 5k run

8th March: Yoga class
13th March: 5k run

15th March: Yoga class
19th March: Yoga at home
20th March: 5k run

21st March: Yoga at home x2
22nd March: Yoga class
27th March: 6.5k run

YOGA
On the week starting 8th March I didn’t get round to doing any yoga at home, pretty poor really but I have tried to make up for it by doing it twice this week!
We have a new yoga instructor at our Yoga class and he’s amazing. I’m working harder than I have done before as he really pushes us, it’s great! It’s been inspiring me to do more at home too.

RUNNNING
I’m really proud to have met my running target this month, after a little dip in motivation and form I feel like I’m back on track! 5k is feeling less of a slog and more of a steady distance now I’m settled into my new route, the hills are less daunting now too.
I managed my first run over 5k, it was surprisingly comfortable despite the extra distance including a really steep hill!

Targets for April.

Im upping my targets a little this month, it may be a bit ambitious but I’m feeling good so I’ll give it a shot!

*Continue going to yoga class once a week

*Practice yoga at home at least twice a week

*Run at least once a week, minimum 5k distance

*Run further than 5k twice

My fitness in February

Okay, I’m throwing it out there right now: my fitness in February had SUCKED!!!

Here comes the excuses part:

  • We moved house
  • Mark was in London for a week so I couldn’t get out to yoga class or for any runs at that time.

So there’s my excuses over and done with.  Let’s get on and take a look at what I have actually done this month.

YOGA

So aside from the week when Mark was away, I have continued going to my weekly yoga class  Rather excitedly I now also have my new Yoga pants!!  I am actually in love with them, I haven’t yet got a proper picture but I promise I’ll share next month!  I’d love to say that they have turned me into a yoga master, but unfortunately not!  They do however make me want to become one, if only to have an excuse to buy more!!

 

RUNNING

Okay, so this is where I feel I have really failed this month.  I have only been running twice in the whole of February *hangs head in shame*

I wanted to run more than 5k this month, I haven’t managed it.  The new route from our new house feels a lot more challenging than our old one.  There’s hills and it is a lot more exposed to the sun.  Its been really hot and humid and so its really energy sapping anyway, let alone when trying to run!

Mark going away for a week obviously is a valid excuse as to why I didn’t run that week, but I then kinda just extended that excuse for the week after too.  There have been a couple other extenuating circumstances with Mark having to do a few things with work but in general I have just not taken the opportunities to get out and run when they have been there.

I am definitely annoyed at myself and have been feeling sluggish as a result of it so I will certainly be pushing myself more next month.

As i have been so rubbish this month, Ive not bothered to do any total distance covered or any fancy chart.  Its quick, Ive ran 10k this month.  At least it is an easy goal to beat next month I suppose!!!

 

FITNESS TARGETS

I did not manage to succeed on last months targets.  To help boost my morale a little  I have decided to make my targets for this month a *little* easier, by reducing the amount of times I plan to get out for a run.  Obviously if i then do more than that it would be great.  I think I need to be realistic and remind myself that while I would love to say I would go out running three times a week, it is just not all that achievable all the time.  There is no point setting goals that I am unable to achieve, thats no good for motivation at all!

So here are my targets for March.

  • Continue weekly yoga class
  • Practice yoga at home at least once a week
  • Run at least once a week.
  • Minimum running distance of 5k
  • Run further than 5k at least once this month.

My fitness in January

PRE JANUARY

I started running again when Freddie was about 8 weeks old.  I really enjoyed getting back into running and very quickly started getting into a routine of going around 3 times a week of up to 5k at a time.

Prior to that I have also been doing Dr.Joanna Helcke’s post-natal online Pilates programme….I highly recommend that by the way (a post coming on it soon!). I also did her pre-natal Pilates programmes which I reviewed if you want to check it out!

MY FITNESS IN JANUARY
YOGA
This month I have been absolutely LOVING my weekly yoga class at Raffles.  I go every Tuesday night and it’s amazing.  Some weeks it’s really tough and kicks my butt and then other times I’m so relaxed afterwards I fall asleep on the sofa super early!  I’m finding it to be a perfect addition to running.
I’m also back to doing yoga at home a couple nights a week.  I use an app called Yoga Studio and I think it’s great!

They are an Australian company I just discovered that I think I am a little bit in love with!!  There stuff is awesomely and im sure I’ll be buying from them again soon (not a sponsored link just think they are great!!)

RUNNING
I’ve been a little bit rubbish with my running this month, in fact I took a couple of weeks totally off.  Not deliberately, it just kind of happened.  I have to say that I kind of am the anti-new years resolution person.  I never make them and I almost sub-consciously rebel against January for that reason!!  The first week in Jan I was fine, it was easier though as Mark was still at home on Christmas holidays.  When he went back to work we’ve both been more tired and I haven’t been able to motivate myself to go as much!

Anyway, last week I picked myself back up (actually it was when I started writing this post that made me go so it’s working already as motivation!!) and went back out.  I felt really good on the way out, I went a bit too fast though, I made myself do a 5k even though when I got to 2k I knew I’d struggle on the way back!!  I did struggle, in fact I had to walk the last 50m or so, I was very annoyed with myself.

GOALS
My plan for next month is to go running twice a week and continue with yoga.  Mark is going to London for 5 days in Feb so it won’t be possible for me to go then but I will make sure to do what I can at home.
We are moving house this weekend and so my running routes will change.  I would like to pus my distance a little last 5k this month too, even just a couple of times.

next month I will also record all my runs so I can see how far I’m going each month.  I think it will be a good motivator!
