Bed time story {The Ordinary Moments} #28
This week I’m heading back inside for our ordinary moments after a few weeks over sharing some of our outdoor ordinary moments.
I’ve always loved our bed time routine for Arthur. Something that’s been consistent for him since he was tiny. It’s amazing really how it gives him a signal that it’s the end of the day and time to go to sleep.
We always used to snuggle up all together while Arthur had his milk, then do his story before we put him into bed. Now he’s 16 months old and running around all over the place, we’ve made a bit of a change. Arthur was getting distracted by anything and wandering off!!
So now what happens is that Arthur has his milk, his teeth cleaned and then he puts himself into bed for story time. We are really enjoying this new change. Even though we are not getting full on snuggles, Arthur takes turns going from me to Mark giving us a cuddle and a kiss while we read a story.
With Mark being at work all day, this is a true highlight for his day. This lovely time of day with us all together.
We are in love with The Gruffalo in this house, in fact, all of Julia Donaldson’s books, so these definitely dominate the bed time story choices! After this we do Arthur’s lullaby, the same we’ve done since he was ever so small. Then it’s off to the land of nod for our little guy!! A little ordinary moment for us, one that I’m sure is similar for families all over the world. I like that although we live somewhere very different there are lots of moments in our day that would be very similar wherever we lived in the world!

I love that way of looking at it, that wherever we are in the world there’s a common thread of parenthood joining us all together in a whole host of very similar moments – though judging by Arthur’s PJs I’d say yours is just a smidge warmer!!

Hello popping over from Brighton UK. So jealous you are in the Seychelles!!! Bedtime reading is great. The Gruffalo is a favourite in our house too. Our boys are the same age and actually look very similar too. Bet they’d get on great 🙂

Ah lovely photos of a perfect ordinary moment Chantelle. Both my girls are massive book fans, something which I am so pleased about. I was a proper book worm growing up and I really couldn’t wait to read to them. I still can’t wait to read all the old things I used to read to Mads but she is still a little young yet. And all the Julia Donalson are big hits in our house too! x

Love how he looks at his Dad! So much love. We use to read him stories but now he is more into drawing before sleeping. When my son is asleep I will look at his face and would get lost in time. How is that even possible? I am with him all day and his face is still magical =) #magicmoments

Night time is the bestet time ever I find, that time when you’re all winding down. Arthur looks so sweet listening to the story his Daddy is telling him, lovely lovely moment 🙂 Our favourite right now is “Room of the move” (Room on the broom :))

Lovely pictures, I love bedtimes too. There’s something so special about snuggling down, reading a story and kisses goodnight.
And then having a few hours grown-up time before bed! xx

Julia Donaldsom books are a favourite in this house too. I think Stick Man would be at the top of our list, but it is hard to choose a favourite.

Aw I love this book – such a great choice Arthur. As much as it’s once spending lots of time outside it’s still nice to cosy up indoors with daddy for story time x Ax

Sounds very much like our routine with the smallest two, though we don’t have book, but several good night lullabies and then they fall asleep to that. 🙂

I love the family time before bed, you can’t beat it. We too mainly have the Julia Donaldson books as first choice and it’s great now our little one has started to read us a story….in her own way 🙂
Ah lovely! Julia Donaldson books are a firm favourite here too. It’s nice to get a peek at your routine as well, though ours is so much more chaotic than yours! I still love it though. x

Bedtime really is a good time to bond, and it’s a good thing that he’s settling himself down at that age. I’m sure he loves story time!

Oh I love this, his little face is so cute looking at his Daddy! I love bedtime stories, we do them every night with Lucas and really need to try and add it into the twins nightime routine too, it’s not quite as easy with them but I think bedtime stories are so important I must make more of an effort. Sounds like a great routine to get Arthur in xx
