Arthur’s speech at 2 years old

So I wasn’t going to make this into a blog post, but I thought it was the best way to make sure I don’t lose it!!

I wanted to record where Arthur is at with his speech.   We don’t know anyone here who has kids the same age as Arthur (we know people with kids a year older and a year younger but obviously there’s huge changes in a year!)
So we don’t really have any comparisons we can make to judge where he’s at with his speech!

So, here’s a bit about Arthur’s speech at 2 years old!

He’s not yet really putting any words together, we’ve had:
“Bye Daddy”
“Bye Mummy”
we are also getting “Oh dear”
Other than that though words are pretty much singular.

I hadn’t considered that this was potentially a problem until I got a monthly email from Babycentre where it was saying that at 2 kids can put up to 3 words together and I had a bit of a panic!

I realised when writing this list out that he had more words than I knew!  Also, he can communicate with us just fine and so I need to put any possible worry out of my mind (something deep down I knew anyway of course!)

In the last few weeks he has gained so many new words, he’s definitely on a bit of a word spurt (is that a thing!?)

There are probably words I have missed off here but it was really nice to have a general idea of where Arthur is at!

  • Seems to me like he’s doing fine 🙂 That’s a pretty impressive list and he’ll get to the 3-4 word sentences before you know it!

    • Thanks Bridget that’s nice of you to say 🙂 I didn’t have any idea he had so many words until I wrote them all done haha! X

  • He knows loads of words! T has very recently been putting a few words together but not consistently and one or two is more the norm x

    • Thanks Donna that’s good to read, it’s so silly how we get ourselves all worried really isn’t it!!? X

  • Toby is pretty much the same – I read something similar about putting words together but I don’t think we really need to worry! It’s funny reading your list – Toby has a lot of the same words as Arthur, but also the same ‘almost there’ words. We get ‘peeasse’ for please, ‘papple’ for apple and ‘pappy’ for nappy too. He also says ‘zaa zoo’ for thank you (but only when prompted at the moment!) which is very cute. What’s funny for us is that although hubby and I both have northern English accents Toby is already starting to pick up a Scottish accent from nursery – most obviously at the moment when he says ‘birrrd’ with a short ‘i’ and almost rolled ‘r’! But then when he says ‘bubble’ it comes out as ‘babble’ and he sounds like he’s from Essex! Does anyone else speak English to Arthur or do you think he will just get his accent from you and Mark? I’m sure our boys will start putting their words together soon and we won’t be able to shut them up! I have to admit I’m looking forward to Toby be able to communicate a bit more – he can identify lots of things but still sometimes get frustrated when he can’t get across what he wants, especially in the middle of the night when we still just get screaming!
